Visitors can expect to learn interesting new ways to prepare meat from leading butchers with some of the country’s best chefs on hand to demonstrate cooking techniques using a variety of modern utensils. Stewed, roasted, cured, simmered, seared and braai’d are just some of the ways cuts of lamb, beef and pork will be cooked to perfection.
The festival, which is in celebration of the meat industry and associated products, will kick off at the Ticketpro Dome from Friday, 8 June 2018 until Sunday, 10 June 2018 allowing meat lovers the opportunity to explore different kinds of cuisines all under one roof.
Crown National is a specialist in the processing, packing and marketing of food ingredients. With over 100 years’ experience, Crown National has a wide customer base that includes almost all of South Africa’s leading retail and wholesale foodservice companies as well as independent butcheries, larger plant butcheries, hunters and many of Africa’s major food manufacturers.
The National Butcher’s Challenge 2017 presented by Crown National provided a platform for butchers from all over the country to compete and showcase their butchery skills and creative uses of beef, lamb and pork.
Each dish was carefully assessed by a panel of judges which included representatives from the South African Chefs Association and South African Meat Industry Council.
After careful analysis of elements such as hygiene, knife skills, marketability of the cuts, presentation and the uniqueness of the product formulation, the winning team was announced as Team 6 Pack with representatives from Old Town uMhlanga, Spar, Makro and Checkers. They will form part of the squad training for ‘Team South Africa’ working towards representing the country at the World Butcher’s Challenge in Ireland in 2018.

Leading South African chefs will rotate throughout the Theatres daily, bringing with them a unique take on fine cuisine, hearty meals and delicious snacks.

Those with a penchant for the clearer beverage can stop in at The Gin Bar for a thirst quenching selection of Gin to choose from.
