Meet The Team

Sian Gutstadt: Portfolio Director: Decorex SA Portfolio

What was your path to Decorex SA? I am a marketer at heart, with a corporate communications and marketing management degree, so I knew my path would lead me to a company like Reed Exhibitions. I have always believed in the power of exhibitions and have been an exhibitor on a number of shows in my career history. When I started at Decorex SA, I headed up the marketing team and from there, grew into the Portfolio Director role. It is so rewarding working with such a dynamic team and contributing to a successful brand, continuously reinventing, reinvesting and revamping. Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? Up until now there has not been one moment, but being onsite for each of the exhibitions is my favourite part of the job. After months of hard work and preparation, seeing the exhibition in all its splendour gives me a massive sense of pride. But if I had to choose, winning Exhibition of the Year 2016 for Decorex Joburg was one of the highlights of my time at Reed Exhibitions. I am so proud of this award and it really is because of our exhibitors, partners and hardworking team that we won such a prestigious title.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? Urban Jungle. I have always loved botanical prints and greenery in interiors. It gives a sense of revitalisation and positive energy. A primal desire for us to reconnect with the natural world is linking the botanical trend with dark greens, brass, copper and natural fabrics and textures.  The creation of an ‘urban jungle’ is bringing about a return to the natural aesthetic for interiors with genuinely rustic wood, natural woven baskets and botanical prints – everything I love!

Angela Chatfield
: General Manager Sales: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? I started with Decorex in 1995 as a sales executive after selling my  franchise business Stichwitch. I  realised selling was in my blood and became GM of Sales a few years later.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? My most inspiring moment is inviting Winners of the Best Stand Awards to the stage . Our clients put so much effort into their stands  and the winners, chosen by independent judges in each region, have always gone the extra mile.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? My favourite trend is the official Decorex Pastel Palette for 2017 – one of the rooms done in these tones on the Plascon stand  was my perfect “ live in” space.

Reshnie Naidoo:
Senior Sales Coordinator: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? I recently relocated to Joburg, and was looking for a new challenge. Having studied Hospitality Management and Travel & Tourism, Decorex SA was the perfect place to be.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? Having just joined this fabulous team, I would say Decorex Joburg 2016. Seeing something amazing built from nothing was such an exhilarating experience for me.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? White on white with various textures. It’s a clean, crisp, understated design.

Anneline Naidoo: Customer Relationship Executive: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? Being part of the exhibition industry since 2007, Decorex SA was always one of my favourite and most inspiring events to attend. The brand, the look, the feel and the atmosphere was enough to win my heart. I knew this was the place I wanted to be and here I am.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? Every day at Decorex is an inspiring day, but if I had to choose a specific event, I would say being awarded Exhibition of the Year for Decorex Joburg 2016 at the AAXO #ROARAwards.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? The Cosy Hovering trend. More relaxed furniture – such as the hanging swings – oversized seats and daybeds which create havens of calm and tranquillity. These gentle spaces force us to disconnect from the intrusion of technology and find serenity in the freeing motion, yet secure environment of the swing.

Tawanda Runganga: Customer Relationship Executive: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? I’ve been working in the events’ industry since 2009 and I’ve always been fascinated seeing how an event morphs from a brainstorm on paper to a full-on show. Joining Reed Exhibitions Africa – with its reputation of hosting some of the top exhibitions in South Africa – was like a dream come true. Decorex SA is by far the biggest platform I’ve ever been fortunate enough to be a part of.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? Having recently joined the team, the most inspiring moment for me thus far has to be Decorex Joburg winning the Exhibition of the Year 2016 at the AAXO awards.  I work with a fantastic team who have done an outstanding job making Decorex SA a first-class décor, design and lifestyle show year in and year out.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? Black & White imagery has to be my favourite minimalistic design trend. I’ve seen some of the most exquisite black and white interior designs and what strikes me the most is the creativity in simplicity. Design at its most basic.

Decorex Julie PowellJulie Powell: Customer Relationship Executive: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? I was in the travel industry for 11 years – working predominantly in the UK – when I returned to South Africa I felt I needed a change. I absolutely love the thrill of being in sales and through a friend who was and still is employed at Reed Exhibitions, I was lucky to get some inside info and found out that they were on the look out for another sales executive. I have a passion for sales and love the Decorex brand – hence my application for the KZN position as soon as it opened.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? I have many. What I love most is when I see a small business taken to new heights through the exhibition platform.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? I adore the new Plascon palette – I’m a colour junky!

Anita Bloom: Creative Director: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? My passion for all things décor and design, together with 18 years’ experience in creative graphic design, lead to an amazing opportunity to launch Inspire Furniture Décor + Design Trade Expo in 2013. Teaming up with industry gurus, we created a much-needed exclusive trade platform for the furniture industry. After three consecutive exhibitions, 2016 presented the opportunity for Inspire Expo to join forces with Decorex Portfolio, which promised to become bigger and better than ever before! Thanks to the new collaboration with Decorex, the brand is stronger than ever. I am honoured to be living my dream as the Creative Director of Decorex SA and aim to take the brand higher and higher!

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? Compiling and presenting the 2017 Creative Strategy & Trend Report for the Decorex team, and seeing my vision and ideas come to life in the execution of the graphic design and various trends in our 2017 feature areas!

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? As a lover of decor and all things beautiful, I can’t wait to see the latest trends and what the current styles in furniture and decor are! With our continuous attempt to escape the noise of the world and our busy day-to-day lives, we strive to create a setting in our homes that allows us to unplug. In an attempt to create this serene space, natural energy is harnessed through one of my favourite trends to watch for 2017 – ‘biomimicry’.  This movement emulates nature’s time-tested patterns and strategies within the human world as a way to seek sustainable solutions using pieces of furniture that reflect the world around us. This trend translates into natural colours, textures and patterns within the home and encourages you to interpret trends which allow you to create a space that reflects YOU! Making your space your #livingdream

Heather Reid: Creative Co-ordinator: Decorex SA

What was your path to Decorex SA? Having a primarily Graphic Design background, I have an indescribable love for all things Design. Being approached by Decorex SA has been no doubt an opportunity of a lifetime. In the centre of all things Design, this has been an amazing adventure so far.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? The most inspiring moment I must admit has to be the moment the Team shared their victorious Win at the AXXO awards this year(over all exhibition 2016). To watch how supportive and proud each team member was of not just themselves but each other was great. Its phenomenal to see and be apart of a team this dedicated.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? Wow how to chose – the Decorex SA 2017 Trends are all so fabulous, there really is something for everyone. I love the NOIR Black over Black Trend, the use of different textures creating complex yet at simple forms. This trend is everything i love, its clean, BOLD, elegant and sophisticated. I absolutely LOVE this trend.

Sandra Jardim: General Manager Marketing & PR: Decorex SA Portfolio

What was your path to Decorex SA? Thinking back on my career and journey to Decorex, I feel as though any path I had taken would’ve ultimately lead me here. My love for the exhibition industry all started 10 years ago when I started at another exhibition company. It was there I realised my love for marketing and even more so this incredible industry I get to be a part of.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? It would be so hard to choose. Every Decorex show has been inspiring, has taught me something new about décor and design. If I really need to think back and decide, I think it would have to be my first show a part of the team which was Decorex Joburg 2014. I had always visited the show as a visitor and was really a special moment for me to be behind the scenes and making it all come together.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? This is so difficult because I feel as though each of them could work so beautifully in my home. If I absolutely had to choose one, I think I would have to say the Tactility Trend. I love mixing different textures and surfaces in my home.

Roxanne Moodley: Senior Marketing Executive: Decorex SA Portfolio

What was your path to Decorex SA? A creative at heart, I knew that the events industry was where I ultimately wanted to be. When I was approached by Decorex to join their team, it felt like a dream come true. A journey from sales into marketing – I love every carefully placed screw in this multi-faceted, well oiled machine.  Nothing beats the feeling of an event that comes to life as planned, and when you can share these moments with a team of like-minded people that all strive for excellence who have been working endless hours to make that moment happen! Nothing ever stays the same in this industry. Every event is different, and re-inventing the wheel is part of our fantastic journey as event organizers. With every event you create experiences that people will remember. It is a chance to steel a little piece of someone’s heart and tell the story of your brand in the most human way – by not pushing something at them but taking them on an experiential journey.

What is your most inspiring Decorex moment? There is nothing more rewarding and inspiring than the end result of a show: seeing people enjoying themselves; seeing everyone connect and share an experience that you helped create. Knowing you helped put this together and made it happen, makes all the hard work worth it. The first morning before a show opens, as our team of warriors gather for one final confab always stands out as an inspirational moment for me as well. And of course, this year being awarded Exhibition of the Year for Decorex Joburg 2016 at the AAXO #ROARAwards was an absolute highlight and such a proud achievement for us all – a reminder that I work amongst a fierce team of inspiring, creative geniuses and that in itself is a privilege.

Which of the Decorex SA 2017 trends is your favourite and why? True to my earthy nature, I feel influenced by both the aura of relaxation and calm that comes from the ‘Time Out’ trend as well as the need for nature in our homes that is represented by the ‘Urban Jungle’ trend.
