If your home goal for 2018 is to go green(er), here are five easy changes to do your bit without sacrificing on style. They’re simple changes that don’t call for much work, but together they’ll add up to an eco-friendly home makeover.
Clean the air
Investing in an air purifier is a sure-fire way to improve air quality in your home, as it will remove allergens and pollutants from the air. Live plants around your home also act as natural air filters, and some plants are particularly effective absorbers of harmful pollutants emitted from carpets, furniture and electronic equipment. A stylish vase and a spider plant can also add a nice finishing touch to your home.
Let the sunshine in
The most cost effective and environmentally friendly light source is just outside your window. Make use of this natural light for as long as you can before switching on the lights. Open blinds, drapes and shutters to let solar energy brighten up your home.
Use energy-efficient cookware such as glass, silicone or ceramic dishes. They’re the most efficient to use in the oven and can reduce the cooking temperature required. One of our favourites is the Atlantis Casserole ceramic white dish.
With that being said, try to avoid opening the oven door whilst cooking as you can lose a huge amount of heat. Even if the oven is only open for a short time, it will then need to use a significant amount of energy to heat back up.
Recycling is a seemingly small act that has a huge impact when we all participate.
Do your bit and start recycling at home. Start with investing in a recycling bin, it really makes it that much easier to recycle.
Invest in block-out curtains
Investing in block-out curtains will not only help you sleep, but will also work as a form of insulation, helping to reduce heat in your home over summer and keep heat from escaping in winter.
Simple changes in your everyday life are all it takes to make your home a healthier, safer, greener place to be. If you have other suggestions, please share them with us in the comments section below.
