Decorex offers visitors a holistic décor and design immersion, providing an inspired selection of the latest in on-trend products, as well as practical examples of how to incorporate these into a #livingdream space. And this year, Decorex Cape Town is really maximising the overall experience with the introduction of the interactive Builders DIY Theatre.
“We are thrilled to be granted the opportunity to create a unique experience that inspires visitors to imagine the possibilities,” said Andre Steyn Marketing and Innovations Director of Builders. “This exhibition attracts a diverse audience, all looking to derive inspiration and source products that will improve their living or working space. The Builders DIY Theatre aim is to educate visitors through interaction providing demonstrations on garden enhancements and general home improvements or revamps.”
Builders is renowned for carrying the latest and widest range of quality products with staff members to offer the best services, useful to building and maintenance contractors, home improvement and DIY enthusiasts as well as those looking to undertake any gardening.
The Builders DIY Theatre brings together, for the first time, Builders’ Home Made Easy (The Home Channel on DSTV 176) presenters on one stage, Tanya Visser, Elle Franco, and winner of the Builders’ presenter search, Ryan Paulsen, as well as their own DIY guru, Dave van den Bergh.
A seasoned sales, marketing, operations and change management professional, Paulsen has grown his own DIY business specialising in classic car restoration, home décor and interior design. This DIY handyman was also recently selected as the Builders DIY presenter for the television show, Home Made Easy. This Builders’ initiative will simplify home improvement, gardening and décor with easy how-to-guides from skilful presenters.
Working alongside Paulsen on this weekly show, and at Decorex Cape Town, is fellow DIY enthusiast and presenter, Elle Franco. Her knowledge of DIY has been projected across the nation’s screens, radios and various publications. Itrend on ITV, Cliff Central and Funatrix on SABC3 and many others.
“I love getting creative with DIY art décor, working particularly with cement and wood,” she said. “My biggest project to date is the outdoor pallet furniture I built for my home gazebo. It took a loft of heavy lifting, painting, sanding and screwing but was so worth it!”
Planting seeds for outdoor inspiration will be one of South Africa’s favourite green-fingered gurus, Tanya Visser.
“Gardening has helped me overcome many challenges in my life and my dream is to share with as many people as possible the joy that gardening brings,” said the exuberant horticulturalist. “From the exhilaration of planting your first seed and watching it grow to just sitting quietly and admiring the plants while you collect your thoughts.”
Joining these three at Builders DIY Theatre is Builders handyman, Dave van den Bergh, ready to demonstrate how to craft a decorative oil lamp, kitchen stools, upcycled bottle feeders and even a beehive. A Durban-based photographer and graphic designer, van den Bergh has always had a keen interest in everything DIY, opting to assist his father building and repairing items in the garage when given the chance. This interest has led to a vast understanding of woodworking, steel mechanics and everything in between, all of which he will share in easy step-by-step directions with the Decorex audience.
From cost-saving gardening tips to making your own coffee rack, the Builders DIY Theatre at Decorex Cape Town, taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27 to 30 April, it’s not to be missed!
