This year’s five-day Decorex Cape Town exhibition drew 37 768 visitors through the doors of the Cape Town International Convention Centre – this amounts to an impressive 11% increase in trade visitors seeking quality décor products and services. Themed ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’, visitors were emerged in all the colours, styles and dominant trends emanating from the African continent through a number of innovative features.
One of them is a master comic who tries to cook, and the other a renowned celebrity chef, who’s been known to crack the odd joke. Chris Forrest has been on the SA comedy scene since the late nineties, and Pete Goffe-Wood, best known as a judge on Masterchef South Africa, has been making great food for nearly 30 years.
KwaZulu-Natal chef renowned for his exceptional cuisine is Deena Naidoo, South Africa’s first MasterChef SA and patron chef of Aarya restaurants at both MonteCasino and Silverstar Casino in Gauteng.
Working into this year’s Decorex theme, Designing for Africa – feels like home, Naidoo cooked up a storm in the Gourmet Cooking Theatre at Decorex Durban 2019 last month. His cooking reflected South Africa’s multi-cultural heritage with an aim to delight palates of all cultures.
A talented sister act is making waves on the Durban culinary scene, blending the traditional cooking skills passed down through their family over generations with a contemporary twist.
