There has never been a more important time to preserve our natural resources and the environment we live in such as now. Amongst many other trends in design, there is one such trend that we know is not a fad and that is manufacturing products from sustainable material.
Mo’s Crib has taken the approach of using environmentally friendly material to another level by introducing the rarest kind of recycled material in order to hand make unconventional homeware.
We do this through the use of recycled PVC water pipes which we source from construction sites and landfills in order to manufacture modern laundry baskets and planters. Through this project, we have managed to save thousands of discarded PVC pipes that were once purposeless and turn them into something purposeful. Our PVC range is stylish, resistant and durable. The use of the recycled plastic pipe means that these baskets are water resistant and are suitable for both indoors and outdoors.
Another product range which has birthed the concept of up-cycling at Mo’s Crib, is the Origami Swan Sculptures that are handmade from paper. The Origami Swan was the first product that was launched under our company and this pointed us to the right direction. The production process is quite tedious yet worthwhile. These unique creations are made from 780 pieces of folded paper and then painted with glue which gives them a firm and steady finish. Unlike various forms of origami art, these swans are multifunctional and have a dual function of combining the use of a storage utility and home décor in one. The uses vary from storing stationary, a candle holder, pot plant holder or even make up brushes, the list is endless.
The use of recycled material in our production process has differentiated our product from the market and it fuels our passion as we derive our design inspiration from nature, which is modelled in the various colours we use in our product ranges.
Production practices tend to have negative environmental and social impacts and our way of conducting business is a clear communication of our goal; which is to reduce the negative impacts that are associated with production and ensuring that our production patterns are driven towards reducing waste and conserving the environment that we operate in. We live in a transparent world, where consumers are becoming more informed and aware of impacts facing the natural environment and we have found that consumers respond well to products that address the environmental and social impacts facing the world today.
